What do you call candy that soothes a sore throat?

In Swedish it's called halstabletter (”throat pills”). According to Google Translate, it is "cough lozenge" or "cough drops." Is that what the typical American or Brit say?

I'm surprised I had never heard it before. Perhaps that's because I'm almost never ill. And even more surprised that there isn't a more to the point word for it. Swedish sore throats aren't necessarily connected to coughing, and what you want to amend is the pain in your throat. For cough you take cough medicine (”hostmedicin”) in Sweden. 😀

Last thanksgiving I lost my voice completely. The only thing that seemed to Help was gelorevoice or something. They sell them here in Sweden. They coat the throat and are very soothing. But I know there are also little tablets (Bafucin) that helps to numb sore throats but one can only take a certain amount per day. But I guess you are thinking about Strepsils?

In the US, I remember as a kid I always used a numbing spray that you spray on the back of your throat.

Ont i halsen och hosta är vanligt vid förkylning. Har du mycket ont kan du kombinera halstabletterna med receptfria värktabletter för att lindra besvären.
