What is the difference between believe and assume?
When do I use the fist and when the second?

Believe is used when one thinks, feels, or guesses about whether something is true.

Assume is used when one has some sort of logic, or evidence, to prove that something is true.

You can say:

I believe she has a cat.

You can say:

I assume she has a cat since she has cat hair on her clothes.

#0: In Swedish it’s the same as “tro” and “anta“ (or “förmoda”).
