99% or 99 %?

In Swedish, when you use signs instead of words, you put a space before the sign, as you would if you wrote out the word. What’s the correct way to do it in English?

Perhaps it is 99 % after all. My English language iPad shows battery percentage as XX %. Apple usually is good with language.

There is no hard and fast rule but 99% is far more common.
